FUTURE FUNDING FOR JEFFCO PUBLIC SCHOOLS

How can we keep the main thing – learning, conditions for learning, and readiness for learning – the main thing for the 86,000 students attending Jeffco Public Schools?

One way is to ensure our students have the resources they need, and that takes stable funding.

But right now, our per student funding is $2,500 lower than the national average. And our school buildings are, on average, 50 years old.

At a special meeting of the Jeffco Board of Education on August 23, the board decided to place two initiatives on the 2018 ballot:

  • mill levy override that would provide critical financial resources to support operations directly related to student learning and success
  • bond that would enable significant and much needed upgrades to our facilities

Additionally, there will be an amendment to the state constitution on the ballot in November, Amendment 73, that is a statewide effort to raise funds for PK-12 public education.
